Treat it well and it will serve you well, this fits for all electrical equipment not just PCs. Do the right thing and you will be rewarded.

Components

Floppy disks: Store them in a cool dust free environment. Keep them away from direct sun light and other sources of heat. Excessive heat can cause damage to precious data written on the disk. Do not bend the disk as this can scratch the disk surface and cause bad sectors.

CDs/DVDs/Blu-ray disks: Always handle the disk by holding it on its edges. Never never touch the surface of the disk as this will leave fingerprints and other dirt. This makes it difficult for the drive to read off the disk and slows the drive. Touching the disk surface increases the possibility of the disk getting scratched, together with a bit of rough handling can destroy the data on the disk and make permanently worthless.

Blu-ray disks are coated with a clear polymer called 'Durabis' which makes them more scratch resistant. The developers of 'Durabis' TDK Corporation say the disk will work even after being attacked by a screwdriver. But it always pays to be careful.

Pen drives and other Flash memory drives: These storage mediums can withstand fairly rough use. Storing them away form extreme heat should be enough.

Pc Environment: Your PC's worst enemies are dust, moisture and heat. So keep your PC's surroundings clean and away from direct sun light. Direct sun light can cause equipment to heat up fast. Moisture together with residue from dust particles can make connector surfaces to corrode. Layers of dust over circuitry forms insulation and reduces the rate of heat loss, there by increasing the chance of overheating. This can permanently destroy your equipment.

Changing and Upgrading PC Hardware: When handling circuit boards be sure to ware a grounded wrist strap. If you don't have one just touch some well grounded metal and discharge the static built up in your hands. Static electricity can destroy delicate circuits. This problem is most common in countries further away from the equator where the climate is cool and fairly dry. Don't spill any liquids over the circuit boards as that will increase the rate of corrosion.
